Sustainability

Sustainability isn’t just something we value—it’s how we think. Our commitment to environmentally sustainable practices is an extension of our broader goal of being a responsible corporate citizen.

Beyond being the right thing to do, respecting the environment is also good business practice. We know this well at Interior Investments, where we’ve established IIPS (the Interior Investments Performance System), a waste reduction initiative based on the lean manufacturing philosophies established by Toyota and refined through the Herman Miller Performance System (HMPS). From fine-tuning order processing and fulfillment capabilities to re-engineering warehouse procedures, every facet of what we do has been examined and reinvented to achieve an unprecedented level of operational efficiency.

Putting time, energy, and money into a product that will last a lifetime is the best way to live well in your environment, and a good investment. Part of sustainable interior design is selecting the right products that are best-suited for your long-term needs, which is why strategy is such an integral part of our process.

Because we care about sustainability, we’re proud to associate with and represent some of the world's leading manufacturers of sustainable products, most notably Herman Miller—where designing products with consideration for their environmental impact is a central corporate strategy. With a strong legacy of environmental stewardship, Herman Miller's interest in the environment began with the convictions of its founder, D.J. De Pree, who pledged in 1953 that "Herman Miller will be a good corporate neighbor by being a good steward of the environment." In 2004, Herman Miller put into place a set of environment goals that included a zero operational footprint, and they’ve continued to innovate at the forefront of sustainable design.

We work hard with our clients and through our partnerships to leave as small a footprint as possible. Our team members are well-versed in sustainable design, which is seen through our certifications. We’re proud to have been a part of LEED®-certified projects all around the country, including the American Hospital Association (LEED® Silver), the Aurora Police Headquarters (LEED® Gold), the Columbia College Renovation (LEED® Silver), the Exelon Headquarters (LEED® Platinum), and the CBRE headquarters (LEED® Silver).

“Interior Investments was the first to embrace our Herman Miller Performance System, a waste reduction initiative based on the lean manufacturing philosophies established by Toyota and refined at Herman Miller. This groundbreaking work has helped establish Interior Investments as the undisputed leader in the effort to convert what was once considered a lethargic and cumbersome series of operations into a nimble, highly responsive and streamlined process.” — James E. Bacha, Director, Dealer Distribution North America at Herman Miller Inc.
